Way Forward is our support group for all women who have been adversely affected by someone else’s gambling.
Our Way Forward groups aim to provide a safe, supportive and confidential space for women to share experiences, find comfort and empower each other.
Way Forward online sessions are semi-structured, lasting 2 hours over seven weeks. These groups are led by trained facilitators who specialize in supporting women affected by gambling.
Each week will focus on the impact of different areas of gambling harm:
- Session 1 – Get to know each other.
- Session 2 – Understand the dangers of gambling.
- Session 3 – Take care of yourself.
- Session 4 – Overcoming guilt and shame/enabling behaviors.
- Session 5 – Overcome anger and hatred.
- Session 6 – Having difficult conversations/expectations/acceptance.
- Session 7 – Finish it.
Input from previous Way Forward members:
“At the start of the session, my mental health was not good. I was completely overwhelmed and consumed by everything that was going on with my husband’s gambling. I now feel much better, I don’t feel alone anymore.”
“I feel like we have our own families that have been impacted as well. It’s great to be able to talk and listen with a group of people who really understand.”
